The Kansas City Northern Railroad was formed in 1978 from the merger of two bankrupt railroads. These two formed a massive railroad that stretched from the pacific northwest all the way to Texas. They needed a new identity and so I designed the logo and the visual identity. After they came together, it was a straight shot to the bottom as they had entered bankruptcy just a year later and became the biggest corporate bankruptcy in American History. They were shut down in 1981 and were nationalized by the government.
